01 / Surface care

Luxury detailing, without guesswork.

Careful preparation protects the character of a vehicle. The right process is usually more valuable than a dramatic promise.

Start with the surface, not the shortcut

Exterior detailing normally begins with a careful assessment, safe removal of loose contamination and a methodical wash. Wheels, tyres, glass, trim and paint each call for different handling. Paint-safe cleaning is less about speed and more about reducing friction, avoiding unnecessary contact and keeping dirty water away from already-clean areas.

Surface preparation may include decontamination and inspection under suitable lighting. Paint correction is a category of work rather than a magic eraser: it can improve the appearance of suitable defects, but it also removes a measured amount of clear coat. A sensible assessment should explain what is realistic before any correction begins.

Interior care is a material exercise

Leather, coated trim, fabric, alcantara-style materials, carpets and screens shouldn't all receive the same treatment. Vacuuming, gentle agitation and controlled cleaning are often more useful than soaking a cabin. Leather benefits from appropriate cleaning and conditioning suited to its finish; excessive product can leave a slippery or glossy surface that isn't especially pleasant.

Wheel and tyre care deserves equal attention. Brake dust should be removed with a process appropriate to the wheel finish, while tyre dressing should be restrained enough not to migrate onto bodywork. Before storage or transportation, remove loose personal items, check the boot and photograph vulnerable areas.

Regular or deep detailing?

Regular care

Useful for maintaining a clean baseline, monitoring small changes and keeping the cabin comfortable. It is usually less disruptive to ownership.

Deep detailing

Useful after neglect, before a major event, ahead of storage or when a vehicle needs a more thorough reset. It takes longer and may reveal work that needs separate approval.

Choosing a detailing service

Ask how the vehicle will be assessed, which materials will be used, how paint correction is authorised and what happens if a defect is discovered. A good provider should be comfortable saying that a particular mark should remain rather than chase perfection at any cost. Discuss access, drying, weather, collection arrangements and whether the car will be photographed before and after.
